What's the difference between a companion and a booster? Could my account get banned?

A companion plays alongside you over voice, on your own account; Kaki Gaming never does account sharing, which breaks most games' terms. Playing together means you never hand over your account, but a paid carry to climb ranked is what publishers' boosting rules target, so check the game's own terms.
